Is the constant drumming starting to take its’ toll?
Is your outside living area suddenly not as peaceful as it use to be? You might have a woodpecker to thank for that.
Woodpeckers can vary in size from about a half an inch to over a foot. Woodpeckers are known for their red markings on near their faces. One feature that makes them stand apart from other birds is they have a backwards claw. This aids them in climbing and holding on to things. They are also very well known for using their bills to strike repeatedly at trees. This can become quite a nuisance to home or business owners.
Woodpeckers are famous for their pecking on trees. They begin drumming on trees, siding, gutters, chimneys, and even metal. They are more active during their spring mating season in order to attract a mate. This can cause a lot of damage. They are also hunting for food and a place to nest. Once found, they will unfortunately continue to come back to the same spots if they have found food. So, if you have seen a woodpecker you can almost guarantee it will be back. It is important to eliminate their food source so they will not continue to return.
